I’m Steamed!

Ok, so one thing a mom does a lot of is a whole lot of cleaning. All types of cleaning too:  she cleans the house, she washes clothes, she washes dishes, she scrubs off dirty little faces, she mops the floor, she dusts the furniture, she rakes the yard (tries to anyway), and on and on.  There are also all kinds of ways to clean and all kinds of products on the market to do this less-than-desireable chore.  How she chooses to do it all is categorically unique.  No two methods are exactly the same because every household mess is different.  I daresay I can’t think of anyone who has my messes!

Do you remember how your mom used to clean compared to how you do it now?  I have to say that I can’t remember dirty houses when I was younger, that is, when I walked into someone’s home and was met with some mess.  I think that is just because there were more housewives that took care of the house than there are now, where women are more in the workforce.  In my experience it has been almost expected that there be some sort of mess!  Honestly.

I am not big on recommendations, unless it is something that is super beneficial and it does really work.  Even then, I keep recommendations to a minimum because I don’t like sounding like I know better or more than someone else.  What I like to do instead is just share what I use or what works for me.

Ever since I purchased my own home I had all kinds of ideas of how clean and organized I would have it and how to maintain that image.  Boy was I in for it!  Since day one my house has probably seen a total of one week’s worth of sparkly, squeaky clean space.  There is always a mess of some kind and I can’t ever seem to catch up!  You have those days too?  There are easy chores and there are the really hard ones.  Because I have tile throughout the entire house, mopping is perhaps my biggest and hardest chore I have.  The tile itself is not hard to clean, it’s just a lot of it!  I did what my mother did:  lug that mop and bucket around, use Clorox or Pine Sol, clean a small space, dump the dirty water, refill with hot water, and continue the entire process with more tile flooring!  Imagine my happiness when I graduated to a bucket with wheels!!!  Yea!  That got old really quick!  My back hurt, my hands hurt, my whole body sweats (and I didn’t even lose weight to boot!), and my arms get tired and sore!  Doing this every other week in and every other week out took a toll and my floors were still somehow not clean.  I hate mopping!

Introducing…….The Shark Steam Mop!  Remember a few posts ago (about inventing a time machine) that I mentioned to stay away from those infomercials in your ‘me’ time?  Well, I saw this mop on an infomercial but I didn’t buy it from them.  I bought it at The Home Depot.  I kept seeing that commercial and I have to admit I was drawn in but I just wasn’t ready to give in to a gimmick that promised to make my life easier.  But then other well-known brands came up with their versions of the same product and that is what did it for me.  I decided to try the Shark mop but like I said, I bought it at The Home Depot.  It is actually sold everywhere now, even at Walmart.  So what is the verdict?

That thing has saved my life!  At first I was weary about just using water and no Clorox or something like that but after I used it once, I was won over.  The steam from the mop does release all the dirt and stains I had on my floors.  I went through the whole house once, washed the pads in the washer, and then redid the whole house again.  I did that because I wasn’t sure that I had done a good job the first time and I wasn’t sure if the mop really did clean my floors well, but when I went over the house the second time, I only used one pad and it only picked up minimal dirt.  Satisfied!  Happy!  It also saved me a ton of time!  It took me about two hours to do the entire house twice.  The next day, I have to admit, I mopped again but you know what?  I did the entire house in about 20 minutes and I only used one pad.  I am one happy mom!

Just try it if you would like.  It worked for me.  This has made my life so much easier and because the floors dry right behind me, my babies can be on the floor right away, which they love.  I feel happier that my floors are really clean now.  My back still hurts a little but mopping with any kind of device will do that so those are the breaks!  Happy mopping!

if we hit it, then he would completely deital the inside of our car and clean it all out in the process. You’d better believe I buckled down and made it all happen. He even took Q-tips to the inside and left no nook or cranny untouched! I know it will never be this clean again (at least until my kids are much older – or maybe even out of the house!), but I am enjoying it while it lasts.
